WSCH Board Completes Annual Strategic Planning

We recently celebrated the rich history and contributions of the Washington State Coalition for the Homeless (WSCH). Many of you may have seen “The work of many heroes,” a retrospect of the difference the Washington State Coalition for the Homeless has made over the past 26 years, published earlier this summer. If not, it is included in this newsletter.

Some of the highlights that have made a difference in our history, and remain relevant today, include: 1) an equal voice for every county ending homelessness; 2) a state-wide educational conference; 3) legislative advocacy for state-wide policies to support ending homelessness; and, 4) support for the development, and inter-county exploration/sharing, of 10-year plans to end homelessness.

As Mia Wells, Executive Director, stated in the “Heroes” article, “Like most nonprofit organizations, we’re facing challenges with funding in the current economy. We have so many goals and aspirations for our organization, but limited capacity. There’s so much more we’d like to do in terms of advocacy and engaging our grass roots network, in influencing legislations- and in supporting 10-year plans.” Credit needs to be given to Mia Wells and Lael Duncan, the outgoing chair of the Board of Directors of WSCH, for recognizing the need to create a process to analyze how best to move forward during this critical time…
