Mission: It is the mission of the Thurston County Housing Task Force to preserve and create affordable housing, prevent homelessness, to restore homeless persons to stable living environments, to promote community awareness of homelessness issues and to promote programs that provide a healthy atmosphere to needy families, single women, single men and youth through creating community supported shelters and ensuring the provision of vital services.
Purpose: The Thurston County Housing Task Force was established in June of 1988. It is the purpose of this task force to:
- Promote community awareness of homelessness and broader housing issues
- Share information among housing and service providers
- Coordinate and combine local efforts in housing
- Prioritize local housing needs and responses
- Seek community resources to advance the creation of programs which use community supported services to provide a healthy atmosphere to persons at risk or experiencing homelessness.
In order to accomplish this purpose, the Thurston County Housing Task Force shall seek to accomplish the following goals:
- Maintain existing shelter system for individuals and families allowing adequate time to get established in long term housing in the community.
- Promote the use of and link supportive services from community based organizations and government agencies to families and individuals in shelters to better help them integrate into stable living situations.
- Examine and develop housing for the special shelter and program needs of families, youth, single men and single women who are homeless because of domestic violence, drug or alcohol addictions, mental illness, or other problems which contribute to an unstable living environment.
- Advocate for preservation and to develop expansion of permanent low-cost housing in the community.
- Coordinate local Continuum of Care Planning.
- Coordinate local Continuum of Care Planning.
