The Clallam County Shelter Provider Network is composed of
representatives from agencies that provide shelter, housing, social services,
and treatment for homeless persons The Network has been meeting regularly since
the early 1990s. Participants include DSHS, DCFS, the Housing Authority,
domestic violence programs, mental health centers, religious service
organizations, emergency service programs, and the facilitating agency, Serenity
House.
The Shelter
Provider Network has two primary purposes:
- To share
local, state, and national changes in services and funding for homeless
persons via formal presentations and agency reports each month by participants
and guest speakers.
- To identify
gaps in services to the homeless and strategize methods to address those gaps
In 2001,
over 1200 homeless individuals and families were served in Clallam County. This
represents about 2% of the total county population. Recently, a Homeless Youth
Task Force was established to analyze the extent of homelessness with this
population and plan services deemed necessary. Preliminary estimates indicate
there are over 200 homeless youth in Clallam County.
